Melissa Love
My name is Melissa Love and I am so excited to be the STEAM Teacher at Vermillion. Growing up, I have always loved trying to figure out the world around me by experimenting with what ever I could get my hands on. This year starts my 11th year teaching. I taught 8 years in Texas and 2 years at Pray-Woodman(4th and 5th grade).
My family and I moved to Wichita, about 2 years ago from McKinney, TX. I have two boys, one in kindergarten at Vermillion and one 5th at MIS. We have a sweet dog named, Matador.
I am a huge sports fan, especially Texas Tech, Dallas Cowboys, Kansas City Chiefs, Texas Rangers, Mavericks, and Stars.

Class News
Welcome to the Vermillion STEAM Lab, where the students will learn about the world around us. This year the students will embark on a journey of Project Based Learning through Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math. My goal for the students is to help develop and/or enhance their passion for learning. I will see your child twice a week for 30 minutes each time.(1 hour total)
This year we will be integrating grade level science standards, along with what the students are learning in the classroom. We will also, incorporate coding, AI, robotics, and other fundamentals of STEAM.
Over the past two weeks in STEAM the students have been learning about The Engineering Process, and how it helps us with failure, by revisiting the design and creating or trying something new. We also, celebrated Dot Week on September 11-15. Over the next couple of weeks the students will be learning about coding, via Unplugged coding activities. By doing this it will help the students understand what coding is and how it affects us on a daily basis.
We are looking for Cereal Boxes and aluminum foil to help create eclipse viewers. There are a couple of times this school year that the students will be able to view a partial solar eclipse. Saturday, October 14 beginning at 10:20 a.m. to 1:16 p.m. The other one is Monday, April 8 beginning at 12:32 p.m. to 3:04 p.m. There are many sites you can buy Eclipse Glasses from too.
If you are ever interested in volunteering or if you have a career in STEAM, please reach out to me.
